Comments on Buyers Guide To Custom Carbon Wheelsets

Francesco 2023/08/13

Hello I am trying to design a wheel comparable in terms of width/depth to the new Enve’s 3.4. But I want them hooked and the lightest option possible. I believe I should get the WR40 disc with carbonTI hubs, correct? What would be the absolute lightest configuration?

LightBicycle 2023/08/14

Hi Francesco, I have sent an email to discuss more details about your order, please check it : ) best regards, Light Bicycle

I am busy designing a MBB (front wheel drive moving bottom bracket) recumbent and want to use 650B diameter wheels. For a recumbent to climb well, stiffness of the drive wheel is the most important characteristic. Aero drag reduction is nice but not a priority and side wind stability is crucial. So a rim depth of 35mm max is recommended. For optimal stiffness I would go boost or super boost axle width for the front drive wheel with extra wide diameter hub end flanges. I would want bladed spokes for reduced aero drag and your recommendation for lacing pattern and straight or J spokes with stiffness being the priority. The drive hub needs to have the Sram XD drive hub so I can use a 10/50 12 speed cassette. The recumbent rear wheel is not highly stressed but comfort (vertical compliance) and aero drag reduction are the two main characteristics I am looking for followed by light weight. So normal (front wheel) axle spacing is suggested. I will be using disc brakes front and back and 6 bolt attachment for light weight. What is your recommendation? Oh, by the way I live in Cape Town, South Africa with good wheel builders aplenty so for high shipping costs not to kill your proposal I will consider buying the rims only from you and the spokes and hubs here.

Hi Brett, May i know your weight and your tire width please? Then we can know which 650B wheels are better for you. Thanks, Lightbicycle

The "configure" page is not functioning for me. Can you tell me what the price (including shipping), total weight and lead time would be for the following configuration: Falcon R35 rim brake (25mm external width) Straight Pull Spokes DT Swiss 240 hubs / Shimano 11 speed Aluminum Red Nipples Thank you

LightBicycle 2022/07/04

Hi Richard, The R35 with High TG surface build with DT 240 EXP and sapim cx ray wheelset cost USD1002.2/pair, 3-year warranty, weight 1391.64g+/-25. The production time of R35 25mm wide rim brake wheelset 700C needs 2 weeks. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Hi there LB Team. I'm building a 69'er and am hoping to get pricing for the following wheelset: Front: Recon29C14 Rear: Recon26C05 Can I get pricing for these wheelsets built onto DT Swiss 240S and Hope hubs? Front hub is boost and rear is 135QR. Sapim Race spokes and nipples for both please. Matte finish. Thanks.

LightBicycle 2021/03/30

Hi Kevin, I am sorry that we don't have DT SWISS 240 EXP hubs in 135mm available. But Hope Pro 4 hubs do available. The 29er wheelset that built with RM29C14 front and RM26C05 on the back is USD803/pair. The spokes are Sapim D-light as requested. The spoke count is 28H/32h, let me know if you want to change it. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Is there a Lightweight Option for? I am only 66kg heavy https://www.lightbicycle.com/New-Gen-Aero-Shape-55mm-depth-Hand-built-700C-carbon-25mm-wide-clincher-road-disc-bicycle-wheels-with-tubeless-compatible.html

LightBicycle 2020/10/19

Hi Julian, Yes, we can make a lighter version for R55 (25mm wide, 55mm deep) 700C road disc. The estimated weight would be 485g+/-15. But I will have to learn more about your riding to be sure if the lighter version rim is a good fit for you. Thanks, Lightbicycle

I am interested in your custom rim build for a pair of rims but I would like a wr38 front and a wr50 rear. Is that possible? Can I still chose components ,spokes hubs etc. ?

LightBicycle 2020/05/15

Hi John, It is okay to order front WR38/rear WR50 wheelset 700C. Please let us know what hubs and spokes you prefer. Then we can quote accordingly for you. Thanks, Lightbicycle
