TECH

The Flyweight is a new series of wheels from Light Bicycle. Targeted specifically towards racers who seek every possible edge on the race course. Our goal was to produce the lightest possible wheels without sacrificing performance.

Drawing on our engineers’ years of experience and countless revisions in each step of the manufacturing process, we are able to produce a strong and stiff XC wheel while dramatically reducing the weight.

Construction: We used a special uni-directional pre-preg with a very low fiber areal weight. This is an exclusive process to our Flyweight rims. To further reduce the weight we used a blend of Toray T700 and T800 specific layups. We opted for a new subtle ultralight waterslide graphic in glossy black with a matte finish overtop in the spirit of keeping these as true cross country race oriented rims.

Aki : During the years I have bought several superlight mtb 29" carbon rims from Light Bicycle. Please find attached the photos presenting my sub 1 kg racing wheels (Extralite Hyperboost, Berd spokes, Light Bicycle Flyweight rims) and one rear wheel built from DT240 hub, DT Revolution spokes, and Light Bicycle rim. Those photos are taken from my Instagram account called "kireapinnainen". In addition to those three wheels, I also have currently one front wheel that has been built from Tune Princess hub, Sapim CX-Ray spokes, and Light Bicycle rim.

Keven : RM29C06 Review These are my second XC wheels built with DT Swiss 240 hubs. Love the colour match with the bike and completed the Swiss Epic and Cape Epic races on these wheels. Other Light Bicycle rims Just to say that I still have my first set of Light Bicycle rims on my light blue Santa Cruz highball, and they’re still just as good as on day one! I’ve also got a great set of deep-section road wheels built with Light Bicycle rims – they look awesome and ride great.

Hi looking for some 29er carbon lightweight wheelst for my wifes Canyon Exceed sl 6.0. She uses it for street riding mostly, with 1.9 road tires mounted now. She weighs in at 170 lbs. 6 bolt discs and boost spacing . Interested in hi quality 36 hubs also , color blue is possible, thx

LightBicycle 2020/08/17

Hi Joehat, 1. Your wife is a light rider. Ours recommend rider range for RM29C06 (27mm wide) is under 90kg. So she will be ok with 28 spokes or 32 spokes. No need for 36 spokes since she mostly rides on the street. 2. Do you have budget of this XC wheelset? Then we can check which hubs and spokes are better. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Relu 2020/08/04

Hi , I need a set of wheels build with RM29C06 Cross Country flyweight. I would like a more budget friendly hub like Novatec straight pull centerlock disc (Novatec D411SB-CL D412SB-CL). Spokes should be sapim cx ray 24 spokes per wheel. Can you let me know if you can do this setup. Also, I have a werid setup bike with 15x100 thru axle front and 135 QR back. I wonder if the Novatec comes with adapters. Thank you

LightBicycle 2020/08/04

Hi Relu, Yes, we can build a 29er XC wheelset with Novatec hubs for you. Note that Novatec D411SB/D412SB are road hubs. And this model don't have the axle size you want. Will D791SB/792SB work for you? Thanks, Lightbicycle

Luke 2019/09/29

Hello, I would like to order a set of wheels where the front can be switched between 100x15 and 100QR and the rear wheel can be switched between 135QR and 142x12. Disc brakes of course. I heard this is possible with DT Swiss 350 hubs and some endcap adapters. Do you sell these adapters, and if so how do I add them to the order?

LightBicycle 2019/09/29

Hi Luke, According to DT end cap solution, 350 Classic MTB db Center Lock (15 mm) and 350 Classic MTB db IS (15mm) can convert into 5mm Quick Release 5/100mm MTB. The 350 classic MTB db Center lock or IS can convert into 5mm Quick Release 5/135mm for ratchet Shimano Rotor or Sram XD MTB rotor. We just sent you the 29er XC wheelset price and end adapters quotation to your email address. Please check. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Mitch 2020/05/04

LightBicycle 2020/05/05

Tomasz 2019/01/13

Mihao What's the weight of complete carbon wheels in the following specification: tubless ready / Novatec D411/D412 straight pull hubs for 142*12/100*15mm thru axle or similar / Shimano 11s / 28/28H or alternative. Which your product would you recommend? Looking for 1200g.. Xièxiè Tomasz

LightBicycle 2019/01/15

Hi Tomasz, 1. The weight for the configuration you asked is 1209g+/-25. The rims are flyweight version RM29C06 on the front and standard version on the back. Using Sapim CX-Ray spokes. Note that our rims are all handbuilt, so there is a tolerance of the final weight. Also, you might like to know the wheelset price is USD647/pair with the configuration mentioned. 2. Can you be more specific about your riding? I can't be sure the wheelset above fits your profile or not. Can you kindly provide below details so I can make some recommendations accordingly? --Your weight --What kind of riding you plan to do with the wheelset? XC? or gravel and road? --Tire width you use? --Are you consider yourself an aggressive rider? Thanks, Lightbicycle

Esteban 2018/03/07

When you refer to maximum weight for the standard and flyweight versions, are you considering the combined weight of rider and bike or only rider?

LightBicycle 2018/03/08

Hi Esteban, The max weight is referred to the rider. Note that RM29C06 is intended design for XC racing . May i know your weight and riding style please? Then we can check whether it is strong enough for your riding or not. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Fritz 2018/10/13

Same question I am 175 Ride trails that are sometimes rough Thinking flyweight with 32 hole rims What do you think?

LightBicycle 2018/10/15

Hi Fritz, For the max weight limit, it's 100kg on standard rim and 90kg on flyweight rim. So, the flyweight wheels is OK for your weight and riding. The 32H wheels will be slightly stronger than 28H. The 32H wheels is also 40g roughly added compared to 28H wheels. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Patrick 2018/04/10

Any chance you will be making a flyweight XC rim that has a inner diameter of 25 with a outer of 30 or so? This seems to be where DT Swiss and Enve are going with there light race wheels. if you made this I would order it tomorrow! Patrick

LightBicycle 2018/04/10

Hi Patrick, We have RM29C19 with 24mm inner/30mm outer width, will this work for you? https://www.lightbicycle.com/U-shape-29er-rim-30mm-wide-hookless-MTB-bike-carbon-rims-tubeless-compatible.html Thanks, Lightbicycle

will the XX1 freehub accept the XO 12 speed cassette ?

LightBicycle 2017/07/14

Hi Bobo, All Sram 9 or 10 speed cassettes are with Shimano freehub style. Only the Sram 11/12 speed cassettes use the Sram XD freehub driver. Sram has X01, XX1, X1 which all use the Sram XD freehub body. Do you mean Sram 12 speed cassettes? If yes, Sramxx1 is compatible with Sram 12 speed cassettes. Thanks, Lightbicycle

William 2017/03/29

Hi, I have a 2014 Cannondale team scalpel carbon with Enve XC 29er carbon rims. I shattered the rear rim and need a replacement rim. I am looking for the hoop only. I am looking at your 29c06 rim. Is this the closest rim you have to my current Enve? I only need the hoop to repair my wheel. Do you sell just the hoop and what is the cost?

LightBicycle 2017/03/30

Hello William, Thanks for your inquiry. Our RM29C06 rim is designed for XC riding and will work with your bike. It is okay to buy the rim only. Normally, you need to get some new spokes also, because the rim ERD is different, so the spoke length will be different. RM29C07 (27mm width): 360 /-15g, $165/pcs Thanks, Lightbicycle
