Thomas : The AM928 wheelset I have was ridden all through COVID. It's been through thousands of miles and tough descents. I did the DT350 hubs and installed the 54t ratchet later and it has been super reliable since 2020. This bike has been bikepacked and trail ridden in MO, NM, AZ, UT, CO, WY, MT, ID and never skipped a beat. It even did the singletrack descent at mount lemmon. The wheelset has survived thousands of square edge rock hits at speed and shows only a few scratches. I think the hookless thick bead bed is the reason they can survive so much abuse. Although I never put these wheels on my enduro bike (they are non-boost) I think they would hold up pretty well at the bike park as well. They never came out of true (only wheelset I've ever been able to say that about) and I never broke a spoke or lost tension on any of the spokes. This is the AM928, non boost, DT350 54T straight pull 32h, with aluminum nipples.

Edwin : A great wheelset made with no sooke access holes. No tape necessary for tubeless! Light feeling and plenty robust even running low tire pressure to gain some comfort on my hardtail. The surface hardness is also surprisingly good. Barely notice and superficial wounds from some minor rock encounters. The DT hubs are solid! So good I'll buy from Light Bicycle again and again. Koko is knowledgeable and realistic!

Hi James, Yes, we can make a lighter version for AM928. The estimated weight would be 400g+/-15. However, I would like to learn more about your intended use before sending you the order. What tires are you plan to using? We only recommend the using the lighter version for the front wheel, and for light riders under 90kg only. Reducing the weight is also make the rim less strong. So I like to make sure your riding is a good fir for the lighter version rim. We do have rims 29er specifically designed for XC riding, what's the reason you want to use AM928 instead? I'm interested in the AM928 as well as the RM29C14 rims for my MTB, I like the AM928s but can't figure out why they are so much more expensive. Is there something I should know that justify the exter $84 per rim?

Hello Charlie, Thanks for your inquiry. Please find the difference between RM29C14 and AM928 rims as below. -Both rims feature angled spoke holes, a modern u-shaped profile, have a bead lock and work with or without tubes. Both rims also have a low profile hookless bead with a large radius which helps reduce pinch flats. -Our 34mm asymmetrical rims will have more even spoke tension than our 38mm which results in a more durable wheel build. The low tension spokes will be at higher tension compared to a traditional rim which results in less wheel re-truing. -The 38mm are wider and deeper so the lateral and vertical stiffness are increased. Riders that prefer a more compliant ride would be happier on the 34mm rims. The 34mm rims with their new layup design have the best strength to weight ration in our lineup. -And it is 2 years warranty for asymmetrical rims/wheels. It is only 1-year warranty for symmetrical rims/wheels. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Hi I damaged the rim on my sram roam 50 front wheel. I stead of buying a new front wheel I am considering rebuilding my wheels with carbon rims. the spoke count is 24 on the front and the back. ello Lasse, Thanks for your inquiry. Normally, more spokes give the rim greater strength and rigidity. Most of our customers choose 28H or 32H rims which make wheels stronger. If you take XC riding only and go with AM928, it is okay to order the 24H rims also. Thanks, Lightbicycle

You will get more even spoke tension with the asymmetrical rim which makes for a more durable wheel build. For symmetric rim, the spoke tension is different on both drive and non-drive side. However, if you are on a budget, let’s go with front RM29C07/ rear EN928. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Hello Mark, Sorry for the late reply. Because we were on vacation in last 3 days. Our asymmetric line of rims is inventoried so we can ship quickly. Yes it is more expensive (inventory and our product improvements cost more), but it does offer a higher level of service. The crash replacement coverage is increased and time period is doubled. With the addition of increased performance and durability etc. this could be a viable option for customers wanting something at this level. The hookless "lips" on the 38mm rim are 3.2mm wide vs. 3mm on the asymmetrical rim. Both are the same depth and are quite strong. Technically the 38mm yields a slightly higher impact resistance, but it's quite close. You will get more even spoke tension with the asymmetrical rim which makes for a more durable wheel build, so the 34mm has the advantage there. If you prefer a slightly more round and more natural tire profile with medium stiffness, go with the asymmetrical rims. If you prefer a wider more squared off profile with more volume, then go with the 38's. Thanks, Light-bicycle
